This work started out as a little bit of fun and another personal challenge for the artist as it is the first Roberta creates a background of her signature work with a fine liner rather than with brush and ink. In this work it is evident the level of skill and adaptability that the artist has reached, putting again emphasis on the greyscale that she aims to in most of her works as a reflection of a sense of stability, clarity and balance. It is almost perfection. La Danza – the Dance, Roberta explains she feels like giggling every time she looks at those little elephants rolling into and across the “canvas” as if they were not planned: a joyful and playful performance, they move spontaneously in their happy little dance. Elephants have been portrayed quite often in Roberta’s pieces, as they are her favourite animal, one of the most docile, playful and gentle animals. Perhaps drawing and painting elephants is Roberta’s way to reconnect and feel closer to her long-lost friends and her family members who are so far away.
